Civic engagement and community leadership
Building bridges, encouraging participation and strengthening communities
Beyond his achievements in hospitality, aviation and philanthropy, Sabbir Karim has played an active role in British civic and community life, promoting inclusion, dialogue and greater participation in the democratic process.
As Founder and Chair of British Bangladeshi Friends of Labour (BBFOL), an independently established organisation, Sabbir works to encourage political engagement, strengthen community representation and create opportunities for British Bangladeshis to participate more fully in public life.
His civic involvement has brought him into contact with Members of Parliament, government ministers, local councillors and community leaders through parliamentary receptions, interfaith gatherings, political forums and grassroots initiatives.
Among these engagements, Sabbir had the pleasure of welcoming Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, to Namaaste Highgate for a Ramadan gathering. He has also been invited to receptions at 10 Downing Street, including events celebrating Britain’s diverse communities and cultural traditions.
Through these experiences, Sabbir continues to champion community participation, foster meaningful relationships and encourage greater understanding between people from different backgrounds.
His commitment to public service reflects a broader belief that stronger communities are built through inclusion, opportunity and bringing people together.
